The 2008 Borgata Poker Open got off to a good start last week. The tournament, which is taking place at the Borgata Hotel Casino and Spa, set attendance records for the first week, and promises to set more as play goes on. The tournament will end with the WPT Championship Tournament, which offers a USD $5 million guaranteed prize pool - the largest pool ever offered by a casino. The final will take place between September 14th and September 18th.

The 2008 Borgata Poker Open is the sixth annual occurrence of the event. The play started last Friday with a series of buy-in events leading up to the WPT Championship. The weekend started with a $1,000 No Limit Main Event, which saw 529 players competing for a $150,712 first prize. The event was won by Geffrey Klein of Houston.

The $1,500 No Limit Main Event also started on Saturday, with players fighting it out for a part of the $624,000 prize pool. The field for this tournament included a number of big names, but Advo Djokovic of Staten Island proved his skills, and took the first place prize of $178,588.

This week, the tournament will feature the Seven Card Stud Event, the $2,500 + $150 No Limit Hold'em Event, and the $5,000 + $200 No Limit Hold'em Event, as well as the new 'Guaranteed $100,000 Tournament'. The accessible $300 But-In + $40 Entry cash tournament will help to build excitement in preparation for the $5 Million Guaranteed Championship Main Event.

The tournament has attracted a lot of star interest, including Jamie Gold, Dennis Phillips, JC Tran, Nam Lee, and Kathy Liebert.
