Gambling Activity Follows City Takeover

More sports betting on City to win the title recorded following their Arab takeover.

There have been "plenty" of gambling enthusiasts backing Manchester City to win the Premier League title in recent weeks, according to bookmaker Coral.

Apparently, there have been more bets than usual placed on Mark Hughes' side to take English football's biggest prize, after the club were taken over by Abu Dhabi United Group earlier this month.

David Stevens, spokesperson for Coral, claimed that events at Eastlands, which saw millions of pounds come into the club and Brazilian star Robinho join the squad, have had an effect on the pricing of some markets.

"The very fact that they've got this wealthy owner that potentially is going to bring in all kinds of superstars is something that we obviously take into account when we're doing the betting for them to win the league," he explained.

It is currently a "watching brief", he added.
