Poker magazine editor has high hopes that the card game can be a success in Asia.
Poker will "become big" in Asia but it will not happen overnight, according to one expert on the game.Dave Woods, editor of PokerPlayer magazine, has suggested that poker is a "new concept" in the continent but "it will gradually deepen" and grow into a success in Asian nations.
"I think it will become big over there because it's a very good competitive gambling game," explained Mr Woods.
However, it takes time for poker to build up in cultures that are not accustomed to the game, he added.
Mr Woods also claimed Asia has "a deep embedded culture of games", which is one reason why poker may appeal to the people who live in the continent.
These comments come after the Asian Poker Tour recently ran a tournament in the Chinese administrative region of Macau. The event was widely reported to be a success.
