Casino Review Magazine deputy editor has said that poker players see America as the most important market to crack.

Poker is considered "more important" in America than it is in Europe, according to Casino Review Magazine deputy editor Hugh Sorrill.

The gambling industry figure has claimed that poker tournaments in Europe may match the prize funds of American competitions, but they do not match up in terms of "kudos".

His views come in the week the World Series of Poker Europe got underway at the London's Victoria Casino, which follows the most lucrative WSOP ever in Las Vegas, Nevada earlier this year.

Commenting on the roots of poker, Mr Sorrill said: "It is very much an American game, and is quintessentially an American game in many ways."

From the poker mavericks to the name of "the most popular game Texas hold'em", the deputy editor explained how much of the imagery around poker is American.
