Police are seeking a warrant for a 61-year-old man from Cross Lanes, Kanawha County, who allegedly choked a card dealer at a Tri-State Racetrack and Gaming Center.
According to Lt. Joe Savilla, the man became angry following a poker game when the dealer told him that he could not give him his winnings immediately at the table. The attack took place shortly after midnight, when the man allegedly walked around the table in a “boisterous” manner, and grabbed the dealer by the neck.
Nobody was seriously hurt during the incident, as a floor boss immediately intervened and separated the two men. Track security detained the man until some Nitro police officers arrived.
Since the alleged crime did not occur in the presence of law enforcement officers, the suspect was released after being identified and questioned.
Lt. Joe Savilla said that a Kanawha County Magistrate could sign an arrest warrant later today.
The victim was a 44 year old man from Chesapeake, Ohio, but police have not named either the suspect or the victim.
This incident is the first violent one that county officers recall occurring at the track. Savilla gave credit to the track for installing surveillance equipment, saying “If you commit a crime at that dog track, their video equipment is going to catch you.”
