Some online poker players apparently dedicate their entire lives to the game.
Online poker qualifiers may be a "key component" during this week's European Poker Tour (EPT) event in Barcelona, it has been suggested.According to Alan Bowden, editor of InsidePoker magazine, some of the internet-based gamers will be "players to watch out for".
He added that a number of them are teenagers, making their way through to the big stage.
"There are 18 or 19-year-old guys who qualified online who dedicate their whole lives to playing poker for ten hours and constantly improving their game online," Mr Bowden commented.
Over the years, the EPT has grown in size. The competition has had higher numbers of contestants and bigger prize pots each and every season.
Season two of the EPT had 2,009 players and a 9.8 million cash-pot, while this grew to 3,481 and 19.6 million in season three, and 5,902 and $38.2 million last season.
