The Rocket is to play in a TV poker event

World snooker champion Ronnie O'Sullivan is to show off his poker skills in a televised tournament.

Ronnie O'Sullivan and Shane Warne are both used to performing in front of the television cameras, but will need to demonstrate very different skills during their next competition.

Snooker ace O'Sullivan, fresh from his victory in the Northern Ireland Trophy, and cricket great Warne are among the 108 entrants for the 888.com Poker Open V, which will be filmed at the Sky studios in Maidstone between October 27th and November 7th.

The event, which will be broadcast on Sky Sports between January and June next year, will also feature six other celebrities, 65 professional poker players and 35 online qualifiers competing for a prize pool of $684,000 (£380,000).

Matt Robinson, 888.com's marketing director, predicted that the tournament would attract some of the world's top players.

He added: "The TV cameras will no doubt capture all the excitement and unexpected turns from start to finish."

The sight of a leading sports star participating in a professional poker tournament is now commonplace, with Steve Davis, Wayne Mardle and Tony Cascarino among those to have experienced success.ADNFCR-1691-ID-18757032-ADNFCR
