Lottery popularity drops

Global Betting and Gambling Consultants managing director claims "the consumer isn't stupid these days".

The UK public's knowledge of gambling has been offered as one reason why the National Lottery has become less popular of late.

Warwick Bartlett, managing director of Global Betting and Gambling Consultants, claimed that people know that the chances of winning national games such as the Lotto are slim.

Indeed, consumer awareness of odds and values ensure they "know before they start [playing] they have absolutely no chance". There is, of course, a chance of winning, but Mr Bartlett was emphasising the unlikelihood of a lottery win.

"The consumer isn't stupid these days - they've got the internet, they've got price comparison sites, they know what value is, particularly in this country," explained the gambling expert.

These comments come after reports emerged that Camelot plans to launch a monthly global lottery that may offer jackpots up to £300 million.
