Knowing when to stop is an important consideration for gambling enthusiasts, says industry charity.
Gambling fans need to understand their limits and know that they can afford what they wager, according to the Responsibility in Gambling Trust (RIGT).Ron Finlay, head of communications at the industry charity, has claimed that betting activity should be monitored by individuals in this way.
On the issue of gambling when stressed, which may run true with people in the current economic climate, he suggested that there are a number of issues to bear in mind.
"Gambling is not something that should be undertaken without people being in full possession of all their questioning faculties," Mr Finlay explained. "There are degrees of stress but certainly we wouldn't advise anyone to use it as a crutch."
The expert went on to say that some parts of the gambling industry have suffered from the "economic woes" being experienced across various sectors in the UK.
His comments follow news that the Duplicate Poker website saw a 25 per cent increase in traffic and game-play following the collapse of US investment bank Lehman Brothers earlier this month.
