Widespread media coverage has helped promote the Ryder Cup, prompting gambling fans to put their money on the event.
Gambling enthusiasts could help contribute to a £20 million Ryder Cup betting turnover, it has been suggested.Peter Petrie, spokesperson for totesport, has said that Sky's coverage of the biennial competition and the amount of newspaper space it gains make a "big issue" of the tournament.
And experts at the betting firm are hoping that the contest goes to the final day in order to keep interest levels high.
"All we hope is that it is still alive going into the last day. There's nothing worse than when there is a team so far ahead that single matches don't count," said Mr Petrie.
Team USA have won the Ryder Cup on 24 occasions, while Europe are looking for their tenth victory this year. There has been one draw between the pair.
