Sports betting: Europe odds-on for Ryder Cup success

Faldo's team are favourites

Sports betting enthusiasts will find that Europe are odds-on favourites to win the Ryder Cup.

Sports betting firms still make Europe favourites to win the Ryder Cup despite the absence of two talismanic figures from their team.

Captain Nick Faldo yesterday named Ian Poulter and Paul Casey as his two wildcards for the match against the US at Valhalla later this month.

That meant no place for either Colin Montgomerie or Darren Clarke, who have both been key men in Europe's success in the event in recent years.

It also left the European team with an inexperienced look, but the bookies all make the holders odds-on favourites to win on US soil, with the best available price currently 5/6.

The US, who are without the injured Tiger Woods, can be backed at 7/5 to win back the trophy for the first time since 1999, while those who anticipate a close match can get 12/1 for a tie.

Despite needing a wildcard to qualify, Casey's price to be the top European player is as short as 7/1 with some bookmakers. Sergio Garcia is the 5/1 favourite in that market.ADNFCR-1691-ID-18757470-ADNFCR
