Several casinos on the Las Vegas strip are following the trend of using sexier tactics to get customers into their casinos during the current economic downturn. This is a departure from the 1990s ‘family friendly’ Las Vegas and the beginning of a turn to edgier entertainment and a more adult theme.
Brittany McClain is one of the new girls working at the casino. On a night, she strips at the Sapphire Gentlemen’s club under the stage name ‘Electronica’. During the day, she sunbathes topless at an adults-only pool in the Rio Hotel and Casino.
McClain gave an interview for Reuters, where she said "My life now is, if I'm not stripping or at the pool, I'm sleeping,"
The partnership between the Rio and the Sapphire is an interesting one, as Las Vegas has always had a gambling industry, and gentlemen’s bars and clubs, but Nevada laws have long kept the two vices strictly separate.
Vegas casinos are now broadening their horizons to find new ways to make money, and attract customers. "It brings the sexy angle to the casino business and that is what Vegas is all about right now," said Sapphire Senior Vice President John Lee. "All of the casinos are trying to get gentlemen's club-type entertainment without actually crossing that line."
Several other casinos have opened topless pools, including Caesar’s Palace, Mandalay Bay, the Mirage, and the Venetian. The Sapphire pool is charging $50 admission to the topless pool, and has a separate pool, the Rio, where there are women wearing swimsuits. No cameras are allowed at the Sapphire pool.
