The World Series of Poker Europe is in full swing now, with the first event of the tournament reaching its conclusion yesterday. The event, a £1,500 No Limit Hold’em tournament, was won by Jesper Hougaard, who took away a gold World Series of Poker Europe bracelet, and a prize of £144,218.
This bracelet win was the second World Series of Poker bracelet that Hougaard has earned in the last three months, making him the first person to ever win a gold bracelet in both the United States and the UK.
The win was a surprise one, as the chip leader on the final table, Adam Junglen, held 1/3 of all the chips at the table, having taken the lead on day 1b, and held it until the final table. It was expected that Junglen would cruise to victory, but he dropped out in sixth place, and took a £28,598 consolation prize.
Hougaard bested a number of professional players to win the tournament, including Mike Matusow, Howard Lederer, Phil Hellmuth, and Daniel Negreanu. The field included 410 players.
There are three more events to come, including a £10,000 main event, which includes a number of entrants who won their places via online satellite tournaments.
