The APT will be back in 2009

Season two of the Asian Poker Tour will begin in Manila in January.

The Philippines will stage the first leg of season two of the Asian Poker Tour (APT) early next year.

Dusit Thani Manila Hotel in Makati was the venue for the first ever APT event in May 2008 and top poker professionals from around the world will return to the resort between January 27th and February 1st.

Australia's David Saab won the $280,000 (£164,000) top prize at last year's tournament and he is likely to be back to defend his title, while Yevgeniy Timoshenko, winner of the APT Macau event, is also set to feature.

The inaugural two-tournament APT proved to be a success and chief executive officer Chris Parker is determined the second season will be bigger and better.

"A comprehensive schedule is now being planned for 2009 to successfully meet the needs of all concerned. We are looking forward to enhancing poker's presence in Asia," said Mr Parker.

The APT is not the only major professional circuit in the region, as it faces competition from the PokerStars-backed Asia Pacific Poker Tour.ADNFCR-1691-ID-18822440-ADNFCR
