The monthly newspaper, ‘Bingo Gossip’, is proving to bea massive hit with bingo players in Texas. The newspaper has everything you would expect, advice columns, just for fun fortune telling, news, and interviews with regular players.
The paper is published by Missy Mouser, a 26 year old who is responsible for the publishing, editing, content, and ad sales of the paper. One reader, Eve Brice, aged 86, said “I don’t go out to shows, I don’t run around with men, but I’m here [...at the bingo...] every night, and I love her paper.”
Ms. Mouser founded the paper shortly after graduating from the Stephen F. Austin State University. One of her friends was a bingo caller who had commented that bingo players often arrived early for the games, and could spend that time reading a newspaper.
Bingo Gossip is a free 20 page paper, with recipes, puzzles, jokes, interviews, and other light-hearted content. The newspaper is published twice a month, with two editions, one aimed at North Texas, and the other at South and Central Texas.
Ms. Mouser spends a lot of time travelling. Every month she spends an entire week ‘doing the rounds’, covering 1,500 miles delivering copies and meeting people at the bingo halls.
