An online poker player has won $55,000

A Danish gambler finished a recent night at the online poker tables $55,000 richer.

An online poker player has scooped a $55,000 (£31,700) jackpot after beating off competition from more than 800 opponents to win a tournament earlier this month.

The Danish player, who goes by the username Iconstruct, pocketed the cash after emerging victorious from Mansion Poker's monthly $250k Guaranteed Freezeout event.

Afterwards he revealed that although he usually only plays low-stakes cash games, the five-figure prize was not his first big prize.

"I also won a seat to the World Series of Poker and I won the $150,000 guaranteed tournament," he explained.

However, Iconstruct's success was far from the biggest online poker prize so far this month.

Govshark2 collected $184,500 after winning the PokerStars Sunday Million, while Starderi pocketed $60,000 by securing top spot in PartyPoker's $300k Guaranteed Sunday.

Cash games can offer even larger rewards, as French poker professional David Benyamine demonstrated by scooping a $428,888 pot on a Full Tilt $500/$1,000 no-limit hold'em table yesterday.ADNFCR-1691-ID-18824588-ADNFCR
