Sports betting punters are happy to back teams they have no interest in, a gambling expert has said.
Punters don't have to be emotionally-charged sporting fanatics to back a winner, according to a sports betting expert.William Hill's media relations director Graham Sharpe suggested that punters are methodical when it comes to gambling rather than blindly backing favourite teams or athletes.
Citing the example of the betting market for the Uefa Cup, he said: "As a fan of the club I support, I couldn't give a damn who won the competition in football terms but in betting terms, I'm quite interested in betting on who might win it."
Sports fans looking for gambling value are happy to have a financial involvement in an event where they have no emotional involvement, Mr Sharpe added.
Football betting enthusiasts looking to profit from the Uefa Cup will find that Italian giants AC Milan are the 9/2 favourites to lift the trophy, while newly-wealthy Manchester City are joint second favourites with Valencia at 10/1.
However, Totesport is also offering 3/1 that one of the teams which drop out of the Champions League wins the Uefa Cup.
