The Singapore government is confident two new casino resorts will open on time.
Singapore's two new casino complexes will be completed on time, according to official sources.Las Vegas Sands and Genting International both announced plans to build luxury resorts in the country following a recent change to gaming regulations designed to boost the tourism trade.
Marina Bay Sands and Resorts World are due to open in 2009 and 2010 respectively, but a local media report this week suggested financial and construction problems had left the multi-billion dollar projects behind schedule.
Las Vegas Sands almost immediately refuted the report and its position has now been backed by the Singapore Tourism Board (STB).
A statement released to AFP explained that authorities are working with the casino operators to ensure work was completed on time.
"STB has been informed by Marina Bay Sands and Resorts World that they expect the respective IRs (integrated resorts) to open in 2009 and 2010," it added.
