Odds on league glory for Liverpool cut by sports betting firms following victory at Stamford Bridge.

Many bookmakers have slashed their odds on Liverpool winning the Premier League this season after the Merseysiders beat Chelsea 1-0 at Stamford Bridge yesterday.

Bringing the west London side's 86-match unbeaten run at home to an end, the result gives Liverpool a three-point lead at the top of the table, with 23 points from nine games.

William Hill cut its odds on Rafa Benitez taking the Premier League trophy to Anfield from 6/1 to 7/2 after Xabi Alonso's deflected early goal clinched victory for Liverpool.

Spokesperson for the bookmaker Rupert Adams described the north-west ide as "genuine contenders" for the title, although he also said that the firm still has "huge liabilities on Chelsea".

Labrokes makes Liverpool 4/1 to win the Premier League, with Chelsea favourites at 11/10 and Manchester United priced at 2/1. Arsenal can be backed at 7/1.

Benitez's side play Portsmouth at home on Wednesday (October 29th), while Chelsea travel to third-placed Hull City.
