The first day of the World Series of Poker Europe Main Event got off to a quiet start, but day two saw things pick up, with 203 players signing up to the £10,000 buy-in event, a large increase from the 159 players who took part in Day 1A, and bringing the total up to a higher figure than last year’s Main Event.
Annette performed well early in the day, but eventually fell to Phil Laak, ensuring that 2008 would see a new champion.
The day was dominated by online players, including Jamie ‘Chronic420’ Rosen and David ‘Raptor’ Benefield, who earned $160,000 through three cash prizes during the series, and finished the night with the third largest chip stack.
The pair will be joined by Yuval ‘yuvee04’ Bronshtein and Brian ‘SBRugby’ Townsend in Day 2.
The day ended with Daniel Negreanu as the chip leader, with Jamie Rosen following close behind. Negreanu picked up a lead quite quickly, and once he broke the 100,000 chip mark his lead simply continued to grow. He finished the day with 154,050 chips. Other notable leaders include David Benefield in third, Sargon Ruya in fourth, and Jean Thorel in fifth.
