Gordon Brown popular in Costa del Sol bingo venues, according to Briton
An unlikely source of support for Gordon Brown has been identified in Spain - the bingo halls of the Costa del Sol.Writing to the Independent this week, British expatriate Valerie Hargreaves reveals that fellow bingo players at her local venue in Malaga appear to favour the current prime minister over his predecessor Tony Blair.
She explains that during Blair's reign, the number ten would frequently be met with shouts of "get him out", but now the number is heard with a "respectful silence" when it is called.
Ms Hargreaves said she has experienced "a significant change from other visits in the reaction of players when hearing the number ten" at the bingo club.
However, Mr Brown came in for criticism over his economic policy in the UK this week after chancellor Alistair Darling unveiled the controversial pre-Budget report on Monday (November 24th).
According to gaming firm Juega Ya, there are currently about 468 licensed bingo venues in Spain.
