Australian poker event generates charity money
A celebrity poker tournament in Australia has generated over $200,000 for the charity established by cricket legend Shane Warne.Organised by Wild Turkey bourbon, the event took place at Melbourne's Crown Casino with a field of 140 celebrities, sports stars and poker pros taking part.
All proceeds went to the Shane Warne Foundation and former World Series of Poker (WSOP) champion Joe Hachem donated $25,000 on behalf of Wild Turkey, as he works as an "ambassador" for the firm.
Melbourne player Michael Chrisanthopoulos eventually took first place, pocketing a $25,000 prize.
Hachem took down the WSOP main event in 2005, when he beat Steve Dannenmann in heads-up play to win the biggest prize in poker.
Warne is regarded as one the best leg spin bowlers of all time and recently retired from full-time cricket to spend more time on his poker game. He was the first player to reach 700 career wickets.
