Coren impressed with Obrestad's attitude at poker table
Victoria Coren has praised fellow poker player Annette Obrestad for her "fearless" approach to the game.Writing in her Guardian poker column this week, Coren reveals that many people did not expect the two women to get on with each other, particularly as they are currently taking part in the same competition.
Coren and Obrestad go head to head in the PartyPoker Premier League series this month, but the columnist claims she has nothing but respect for her female opponent.
She said: "I think Annette is fantastic. I admire her skills and devotion to the game, but most of all I love the social fearlessness that matches her poker."
Coren explains that, while many female poker players adopt a "ditzy routine" when playing against men, Obrestad is not scared to bring confidence and aggression to the poker table.
She describes the 20-year-old Norwegian player, who won the World Series of Poker (WSOP) Europe main event in September 2007, as "an inspiration".
JC Tran defeated WSOP champion Peter Eastgate in heads-up play to win the first heat of the PartyPoker Premier League this week.
