Nottingham man clinches poker title in Hungarian capital.
Nottingham poker player Will Fry is 595,839 (£472,084) richer after winning the European Poker Tour's (EPT's) inaugural Budapest tournament on Saturday (November 1st).Playing in his first major live event, the 28-year-old outlasted a field of 531 in the Hungarian capital, with Romania's Ciprian Hrisca taking second place after losing to Fry in heads-up play.
Fry, who afterwards claimed that he has been playing poker "since I came out of the womb", said he will use the winnings to pay his mortgage, help out his family and make a donation to charity.
He has cashed at six previous EPT events but had never made a final table before the tournament in Hungary.
Taking place at Budapest's Sofitel Hotel, the four-day EPT event attracted players from all over the world and many of the domestic poker scene's top players, with 71 Hungarians in the field.
Fry's first prize also gives the Englishman a seat at the 10,000 EPT Grand Final in Monte Carlo next April.
