Wenger's side defeat Chelsea 2-1 at Stamford Bridge

Odds on Premier League title for Arsenal shorten with gambling firms

Arsenal's odds of winning the Premier League have been slashed in the wake of their 2-1 victory at Stamford Bridge on Sunday (November 30th).

Two second-half goals from Robin van Persie gave Arsenal a surprise win over London rivals Chelsea, who took the lead in the first half when Johan Djourou turned the ball into his own net.

After the result, William Hill reduced its odds on league glory for Arsenal from 33/1 to 20/1.

"When they went a goal down they were 100/1 for the title, by the end they were a fifth of those odds," confirmed Graham Sharpe, spokesperson for the bookmaker.

The result puts Arsenal in fourth place in the Premier League table on 26 points, seven points behind joint leaders Chelsea and Liverpool.

Victory for Arsene Wenger's side was not without controversy, however, as van Persie appeared to be offside when he struck the equaliser.

Ladbrokes prices Arsenal at 16/1 to win the league title, with Chelsea an evens bet and Manchester United available at 9/4.
