Mobile gaming tipped to expand

Mobile casino use to increase due to improved technology.

The mobile gaming market will expand as technology becomes more advanced, according to an industry expert.

Jake Pollard, editor of E-Gaming Review, said improvements to mobile devices will help remote gambling appeal to a greater number of people over the next few years.

He suggested that the growth of mobile gambling as a separate market is "mainly down to convenience and technology, ie connectivity".

This means that, as high-end devices such as the iPhone and BlackBerry become more widely used, the influence of mobile gambling should spread.

Mr Pollard explained: "The iPhone and the Blackberry are the first mobile devices to be able to harness broadband on the mobile and if more people have access ... that could help mobile gaming and betting."

He also stated that remote gambling could eventually rival the current market for online gaming, because the number of people with mobile phones "dwarfs internet connection by a considerable amount".

According to a recent report from Juniper Research, the UK is currently the largest market for mobile betting, with 52 per cent of all wagers originating in the country.
