Higher broadband speeds to benefit online gambling firms.
The growth of the global broadband network is creating major new markets for online gaming firms, it has been claimed.Warwick Bartlett, lead partner of Global Betting and Gaming Consultants (GBGC), explained that customers who were previously unable to access different gaming operators due to restrictive legislation can now search for the provider with the best value for money.
He said that, as new broadband connections continue to give people access to faster internet speeds, the number of people seeking out new gaming portals will increase rapidly.
Mr Bartlett said: "There's a whole market out there where people have been denied choice and value because they're having to bet with state monopolies.
"The moment these people go online, they've got access to bet with bona fide casino operators and bookmakers to get outstanding value for money."
GBGC was founded by Mr Bartlett, who is currently chairman of the Association of British Bookmakers.
The consultancy recently produced a report on the impact of smoking bans on gambling firms around the world, as well as a study entitled The Chinese Gambler.
