Manchester United have been given a boost ahead of their visit to Harry Redknapp's Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday.Veteran goalkeeper Edwin van der Sar has signed a contract extension that will see him remain between the sticks until 2010.
The former Holland keeper has achieved iconic status at Old Trafford since saving Nicolas Anelka's penalty in the Champions League final to hand his team victory.
"His temperament, professionalism and performance level have not changed one bit since he has been with us," said van der Sar's manager, Sir Alex Ferguson.
"Obviously, it will be his last year. He's been absolutely marvellous here."
With Spurs just three points outside the relegation zone, the London club will hope to send van der Sar and his teammates back up the M6 with nothing more than a sense of hurt pride.
At 5/6, the European champions are heavily favoured compared to Tottenham's 15/4 odds.
Spurs have experienced something of a revival under new manager Redknapp though, and at 13/5 for a draw more than a few may be tempted to have a flutter.
