Gambling licence in Great Yarmouth attracting interest.
The licence to build a new gambling venue in Great Yarmouth is attracting interest from four major developers, according to the local council.Although local businessmen Albert Jones and Patrick Duffy have already declared their interest in the project, with the former recently submitting plans for a £35 million casino and leisure complex, the process of finding a developer is unlikely to be straightforward.
Tim Howard, head of regeneration at Great Yarmouth council, said that four as yet unidentified consortiums are also interested in bringing a new casino development to the Norfolk resort.
He told the Eastern Daily Press that the four parties were whittled down from a list of about 60 developers who initially made inquiries about Great Yarmouth's Golden Mile site three years ago.
"We will be communicating with the developers to keep them abreast of what we are doing with the casino licensing process," Mr Howard explained.
Graham Plant, cabinet member for regeneration, said that the council has not "set any agenda" for vetting casino proposals.
Great Yarmouth's Mint Casino, one of the existing gaming venues in the town, offers blackjack, roulette and three-card poker facilities.
