New poker publication could help beginners sharpen their skills
Novice poker players wishing to brush up on their card skills have been advised to invest in Anthony Holden's new book Holden On Hold'em.Nic Szeremeta, poker columnist for the Independent, describes the publication as an "entertaining read" which is ideal for Texas hold'em newcomers who are eager to improve their game.
Most importantly, he states that Holden's effort reinforces "one of the poker truths that is sometimes forgotten - you don't have to be that good to win".
According to Little Brown, the book's publisher, Holden On Hold'em is "the first really readable manual in the history of poker".
The authors of previous poker guides may refute that statement, but Holden's volume certainly offers aspiring card sharps plenty of useful information on probabilities, poker table etiquette and the game's great players.
A noted broadcaster and critic, Holden is a current contributor to the Observer.
His previous works on poker include Big Deal: A Year as a Professional Poker Player.
