Poker championship scheduled for Auckland gaming venue.
Auckland's SkyCity Casino is set to host its inaugural Auckland Anniversary Poker Championship next month.The seven-day tournament, which begins on Monday 19th January, will boast a minimum prize pool of NZ$50,000 (£19,857) and players can enter the main event with a buy-in of NZ$1,100.
Ejaaz Dean, executive manager of table games at the New Zealand casino, said that the tournament is set to become a major event on the country's poker scene, which is still at the early stages of development.
"The possibilities in New Zealand are endless - we're just at the very beginning of our own poker craze," he explained.
"We want the Auckland Anniversary Poker Championship to become an annual fixture on the poker circuit and an absolute must for all top New Zealand poker players."
Daniel Cracker, winner of the 2008 SkyCity Festival of Poker, is one of the native card sharps set to take part next month.
SkyCity Auckland contains more than 1,600 gambling machines and over 100 gaming tables.
