Record Field Expected For EPT Caribbean Event

EPT gearing up for poker event in Caribbean.

The European Poker Tour (EPT) is predicting a record-breaking turnout for its PokerStars Caribbean Adventure next month.

Kicking off the EPT's 2009 schedule, the six-day poker tournament begins at the Atlantis Resort and Casino in the Bahamas on January 5th and almost 700 players have already won seats for the event.

This year's field totalled 1,136, with Frenchman Bertrand Grospellier coming out on top to win the $2 million (£1.3 million) first prize.

According to the EPT, the 2009 event will surpass this year's tournament and is shaping up to be "one of the most exciting poker events ever".

In addition to the $10,000 buy-in main event, the Caribbean Adventure is set to feature the World Cup of Poker final, a $1,000 super-satellite event and a special $25,000 high-roller tournament.

Danish poker pro Gus Hansen took down the first ever Caribbean Adventure in 2004 to win $455,780.
