Slots credits received by 55,000 people after mailing mix-up

A gaming venue in Grantville, Pennsylvania inadvertently handed out slot machine offers worth $29 million recently.

Hollywood Casino at Penn National Race Course was planning to reward 1,000 of its best customers by sending them free credits for the slots, but ended up distributing the promotion to 55,000 people on its mailing list by accident.

The offer entitles gamers to $100 credit at the slots for five straight weeks, as well as two free visits to the casino's buffet.

Penn National spokesperson Eric Schippers told the Associated Press that, if each person was allowed to redeem the credits to the maximum terms of use, the offer would cost the casino $29 million.

"Rather than say 'Sorry, it was an error,' we've said 'Sorry, let's try to come up with what we think is a reasonable redemption plan,'" he explained.

The operator is now attempting to appease customers who were not supposed to receive the credits by offering a revised version of the deal.

A statement posted on Hollywood Casino's website says: "We deeply regret any inconvenience this has caused our customers, who are understandably confused by this mailing and our notification of the error."
