Mecca confirms Super League sponsorship deal

Mecca Bingo signs sponsorship deal with Wigan Warriors

Gambling firm Mecca Bingo has been unveiled as the new shirt sponsor of the Super League's Wigan Warriors.

The bingo company has signed a one-year deal with the rugby league side, who officially unveiled the new kit at the JJB Stadium in Wigan on Friday (January 23rd).

Both the Warriors' home and away shirts will feature the meccabingo.com logo on the front and back throughout the 2009 Super League season.

"Meccabingo.com is proud to be so closely involved with Wigan Warriors as well as the sport of Rugby League," commented Mark Jones, managing director of Rank Interactive.

"The club has an enviable heritage and is recognised as one of the most prestigious and successful Rugby League clubs in the world."

Meanwhile, Warrior's chief executive Mick Hogan said it would be "particularly pleasing to have such a well known, national organisation in partnership" with the club.

Wigan's first game of the Super League season takes place on Sunday February 8th, when they host Wakefield Trinity Wildcats.

Why Rugby?

Who came up with Bingo sponsorship for Rugby League?! This is the last sport I would target this particular audience with. On the whole I think Mecca's PR and Marketing leaves a lot to be desired. Need to take a leave out of Foxy's book - that's high profile coverage and no doubt money well spent.
