Bingo halls embracing technology?

Expert claims that land-based bingo is displaying innovation.

Bingo halls in the UK are using technological developments to improve the experience of their customers, an industry expert has claimed.

Paul Tallboys, chief executive of the Bingo Association, said that land-based bingo venues and their customers are often wrongly portrayed as "resistant to innovation".

He explained that, in reality, many of the people who visit bingo halls enjoy applying new technology to the numbers game.

"The way forward for leisure generally and bingo as part of that is to make use of electronic innovation," Mr Tallboys said.

According to the bingo authority, recent innovations such as wireless bingo are important because they make the game accessible to people with visual impairments or other disabilities, thereby providing a "good social benefit".

Last week, US firm GameTech announced the launch of a new wireless bingo system for the UK market.

Data from the Bingo Association shows that about ten per cent of bingo hall visitors also use online bingo services.
