CES, the annual Consumer Electronics Show, stands ready to take over Las Vegas once again this month, as a huge number of people will flock to the event to check out the latest gadgets and consumer technology devices.

More than 130,000 people will be attending the Las Vegas based show this year, and many companies are running satellite events which will be hosted at casino hotels around the strip.

The show is the highlight of the consumer tech calendar every year, and Gary Shapiro, head of the Consumer Electronics Association, said “It will be a bright spot compared to the uncertainty in the rest of the economy.”

Attendance is down slightly on the 2008 figures, but Mr Shapiro said that the association was overall pleased with the figures, since they had held fairly steady in spite of the troubled economy this year.

The show will feature more than 2,700 companies showing off their products, with booths covering more than 1.7m square feet of floor space. The exhibition will open with a keynote speech from Microsoft’s Steve Balmer.    This year, the overall theme of CES is expected to be ‘Internet on The Go’, with organic LED screens, mobile internet devices, and 3D TV and film technologies expected to be in abundance.
