EPT heads to France for latest tournament

Many of the continent's finest poker players are in northern France this week for the latest stop on the European Poker Tour (EPT).

The Barriere Casino, a seafront gambling venue in the Normandy resort of Deauville, hosts a €5,300 (£4,917) no-limit hold'em tournament from today (January 20th).

According to the EPT, the event has seen 121 people qualify online through PokerStars and is likely to break its record for number of players, with over 400 participants already registered.

Confirmed players include defending champion Mats Iremark, who won €480,000 in Deauville during EPT season two, Bertrand Grospellier, Gavin Griffin, Victoria Coren and Isabelle Mercier.

The most recent EPT champion is Canada's Poorya Nazari, who took down the first prize to pocket $3 million (£2.14 million) at the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure earlier this month.

Nazari's victory earned him a place in the EPT Grand Final, which begins in Monte Carlo on April 28th.
