Women have advantage at the poker table, say female players
Two female poker players from the north-west have claimed that women have the natural attributes to be better at the game than their male counterparts.Karen Dennett from Runcorn and Kirkby resident Linda Blundell recently took part in the final of the 2008 Betfred Ladies Poker Tour in London, pitting their wits against eight other female players from around the UK.
The two women told the Liverpool Echo why female players often hold the upper hand when taking on men at the poker table.
"Men think women can't bluff, which immediately gives women an advantage," explained Ms Dennett.
Her comments were supported by mother-of-two Ms Blundell, who added: "I actually think a good woman player is better than a good man because we are more patient and more intuitive. We can read people better."
Ms Dennett also claimed that women have more patience than men, which helps when playing in long-lasting poker games.
"You have to concentrate for long periods and men tend to get distracted," she said.
Successful female poker players include Jennifer Tilly, the American actress-turned-poker player who won a World Series of Poker bracelet in 2005.
