Praise for legislation allowing higher limits on slots jackpots.
The editor-in-chief of InterGaming magazine has welcomed the government's decision to allow larger stakes and jackpots for slot machines in the UK.Phil Clegg described the new legislation, which means that maximum prizes will double to £70 and players will now be able to stake £1 instead of 50p, as a "godsend".
He said that intervention from the authorities had come at "just at the right time", with the gaming industry struggling to absorb the impact of the economic downturn.
"The Gambling Commission has seen sense. They've come to the conclusion that the industry isn't 'crying wolf'; that it's in serious trouble and it needed these breaks," Mr Clegg commented.
He explained that the gaming sector had already been struggling before the recession, with casinos and other venues suffering major revenue hits since the public smoking ban was introduced.
The relaxation of jackpot and stake limits is expected to boost revenues by 20 per cent.
