Amusement arcades to offer new slots limits

New limits for slots proposed by government department.

The government has issued confirmation of its plans to raise the maximum stakes and jackpots for slot machines in the UK.

A statement from the Department for Culture, Media, and Sport on Tuesday (January 27th) explained that it will propose an increase in the stake limit for individual machines from 50p to 70p, while a rise in the jackpot limit from £50 to £70 will also be recommended.

The department has decided to introduce the changes in response to the difficult trading conditions currently facing the UK gambling industry.

Sports minister Gerry Sutcliffe said that the DCMS will work alongside the Gambling Commission to implement the changes, Reuters reports.

Slot machines in pubs, clubs and amusement arcades will be able to take advantage of the new measures, which were initially mooted at the beginning of the month.

The Times has reported that such a change to gambling legislation could boost the industry's revenues by 20 per cent.
