Wrexham couple kick off 2009 with bingo win.
A couple from north Wales have started the new year with a bang after winning £4,200 playing bingo.Les Powell, a pub landlord from Wrexham, admitted that he initially refused to believe his wife Tao when she telephoned from their local Mecca Bingo venue to tell him about the prize.
"I immediately took it as a bit of a joke, that she was just winding me up and trying to get a lift back home," he told the Evening Leader.

However, Ms Powell eventually managed to convince her husband that the jackpot was genuine and the delighted couple celebrated by throwing a party at Mr Powell's pub, The Commercial.
"It took a little while for the news to sink in with me, but what a great way to start the new year. I could hardly believe it," he explained to the local newspaper.
The lucky landlord revealed that some of their winnings will be spent on a trip to Los Angeles, where they will visit Ms Powell's sister.
Recent winners at Mecca's online bingo service include a player known as Mistey2803, who scooped £67,490 on the website in November.
