Technology for mobile gambling needs improvement, says expert.
A spokesperson for William Hill has claimed that the level of technological development for mobile gambling services needs to speed up.Graham Sharpe, media relations manager at the bookmaker, said that mobile betting currently lags far behind its equivalent market on the internet because it cannot yet rely on the support of reliable technology.
He admitted that the industry has "certainly seen growth" in recent years, but suggested that uptake of mobile betting has been relatively slow due to technological limitations.
"One of the biggest barriers has been the rate at which the technology has developed," Mr Sharpe explained.
"The technology on mobile hasn't allowed us to offer the same improvements in service as we've been able to on the internet."
He also claimed that the UK's established telephone betting industry makes many customers reluctant to place a bet using their mobile.
According to a report from Juniper Research, total gross wagers from mobile betting services reached almost $1 billion (£650 million) worldwide in 2007.
