New event attracting north London bingo fans.
A special bingo event is introducing the numbers game to a whole new audience in north London.Taking place every Friday at The Mission Room in Exmouth Market, the Underground Rebel Bingo Club attempts to make the game fresh and exciting for a younger crowd by mixing it with live music and comedy, the Islington Gazette reports.
The event also takes an alternative approach to bingo prizes, with desirable gadgets such as iPod alarm clocks and DAB radios on offer instead of cash jackpots.
Founder Freddie Sorenson told the local newspaper: "We came up with the idea when we went to Mecca Bingo. It was a good night but people were very serious and were there to play bingo.
"We just figured that bingo had the potential to be lots more fun with less emphasis on the playing to win."
The Underground Rebel Bingo Club started in September and has already produced a large crowd of new bingo converts in the capital, according to Mr Sorenson.
According to the club's website, members should have "three core beliefs" "equal rights for all", "playing bingo" and "winning prizes".
