Poker Tops Annual Search Engine Chart

Poker named most popular internet search term.

'Poker' was the most frequently used term on internet search engine Lycos in 2008, it has emerged.

Announcing its ninth annual list of the top 50 search terms, Lycos revealed that poker took the top stop for the third year in succession, beating Paris Hilton into second place.

The card game also generated more search engine activity during the year than YouTube, golf and Sarah Palin - numbers three, four and five in the chart respectively.

Lycos commented in a statement: "The continued success of the World Poker Tour and year-round televised celebrity poker tournaments pushed online interest in poker slightly ahead of Paris Hilton."

The top ten was completed by Britney Spears, Clay Aiken, Pamela Anderson, Facebook and Holly Madison.

According to reports, Anderson could be set to appear in the Aussie Poker Millions tournament at Melbourne's Crown Casino this month.
