Scarborough people urged to voice opinions on casino gaming.
Residents of Scarborough are being asked to submit their opinion on a new gambling policy drawn up by the town council. As the North Yorkshire town is one of 16 locations to receive a new casino licence from the government, the local authority is revising its gambling policy in preparation for the new venue, the Scarborough Evening News reports.
The council, which will begin to consider licence bids from casino operators next year, is accepting the views of local residents in a consultation period which lasts until February 28th.
A council spokesperson told the newspaper: "The council is amending its gambling policy and has drafted competition criteria in readiness for the forthcoming casino competition.
"The community now has an opportunity to comment on the type of regeneration activities and facilities the casino operators or developers should be encouraged to propose."
Scarborough is already home to one gaming venue, the Opera House Casino, which offers blackjack, roulette and three-card poker facilities, as well as weekly Texas hold'em tournaments.
