Poorya Nazari, a 22 year old poker player from Richmond Hill has won a $3 million prize in one of the largest poker tournaments to take place outside of Las Vegas.

Nazari is relatively new to the professional poker scene. Her recently graduated from McMaster University with a degree in biochemistry.

Poker has been a long term hobby of his. He started in 10th grade, playing low stakes games with his friends. He later went on to start a career as an online poker player, with his main source of income coming from online poker.

He won a seat at the PokerStars Caribbean Poker Adventure via a $33 rebuy turbo tournament. This year was his second attempt at qualifying for the game. When asked about his strategy for the tournament, he said “I’m very patient. I’m trying my best not thinking about the money, because it would start toying with the way I would play.”

After the win, Nazari said “It hasn’t sunk in, it hasn’t hit me yet. It definitely feels unbelievable; it feels surreal. I can’t believe what’s happening.”

Nazari now has a place in the European Poker Tour grand final, which will take place at the end of April.
