Special bingo game generates charity funds

Gala Bingo donates money to Sue Ryder Care after special game.

Gala Bingo will donate £20,000 to the Sue Ryder Care charity following the success of its special game Mrs Obama's Bingo.

The online bingo game was launched by Kezia Obama, UK-based bingo fan and stepmother of Barack Obama, to coincide with the US president's inauguration last month.

After raising £10,000 through the game, Gala has decided to double that amount to bring its total charitable donation to £20,000.

Paul Woodward, chief executive of Sue Ryder Care, commented: "We're thrilled that galabingo.com's recent initiative has raised such a fantastic amount of money for us.

"On behalf of the charity, I'd like to extend a sincere thanks to everybody involved and to galabingo.com for their ongoing support."

Gala Bingo is aiming to generate a total of £1 million for Sue Ryder Care by 2010 through various fundraising initiatives.

The charity provides palliative, neurological and community-based care for people with series illnesses.
