Bingo player scoops £28,000

Special bingo jackpot for Scottish player on Burns Night.

A woman from South Lanarkshire celebrated Burns Night with a major jackpot at her local bingo venue.

The unidentified player, who is believed to live close to the Carlton Bingo hall in East Kilbride, won house and national prizes to pocket £28,000, the East Kilbride News reports.

She scooped the jackpot at a special event held at the bingo club to celebrate Burns Night, which pays tribute to national treasure Robert Burns, the Bard of Ayrshire.

Bill Wiles, general manager at the Carlton Bingo venue, told the local newspaper it had been "the perfect Burns Night".

He added: "For the lady to win the big prize was wonderful. It's the best we've had for a long time and we hope she enjoys the money."

January 25th 2009 marked the 250th anniversary of Burns' birth. His most famous poems include Auld Lang Syne, A Red, Red Rose, To A Mouse and Tam O'Shanter.
