US gaming firm to sell or close West Midlands casino.
Isle of Capri Casinos, the US-based operator of a Coventry gambling venue, has confirmed plans to pull out of the venture. The firm opened its casino at the Ricoh Arena in 2006 but now intends to sell or close the site due to the "restrictive regulatory landscape in the UK", the BBC reports.
Donn Mitchell, senior vice president of UK operations at Isle of Capri, commented: "We have informed our employees of the likelihood that we will either reach an agreement with another casino operator to operate this facility or face the possibility of being forced to close the operation."
However, executives at the Ricoh Arena are confident that a new operator for the casino can be secured.
Daniel Gidney, chief executive of the stadium complex, said that the Ricoh Arena's "international reputation" will provide a "massive incentive for an incoming domestic operator".
Covering over 40 acres, the arena is the home of Championship football club Coventry City and also includes a hotel, health club and conference centre.
