Manchester's Royal Exchange theatre to host bingo production

Bingo play starring Sally Lindsay opens in Manchester this summer.

Sally Lindsay is set to appear as a bingo hall manager in Everybody Loves A Winner, a new play from director Neil Bartlett.

Opening at the Royal Exchange theatre in Manchester this summer, the production will see the interior of the theatre building temporarily transformed into a bingo club.

Lindsay, who found fame as Coronation Street's Shelley Unwin, is the first high-profile cast member to be announced for the play, the Manchester Evening News reports.

However, her friendship with Peter Kay has led to rumours that the Bolton comedian could also be appearing in Everybody Loves A Winner as a bingo caller.

Speaking to the newspaper about her role, Lindsay revealed that she has been a fan of the numbers game since her student days.

"I was a student in Hull and I played bingo all the time with my mate … Incredibly, when I went to register as a member at the Mecca they still had my old address from 15 years ago."

Running from July 1st to August 1st, Everybody Loves A Winner will form part of this year's Manchester International Festival.
